Reefer rates eased last week — but this is not a soft market.
National reefer linehaul averaged $2.73/mile, down 2 cents week over week, with no top region posting a gain. The Southeast held steadiest, unchanged at $2.42/mile.
Even with the dip, rates are still 31.4% higher than a year ago and 28.6% above the seasonal average. Capacity is still tight — the load-to-truck ratio is 14.79, nearly 20% above last year — and DAT forecasts reefer edging back up to $2.78 in the next 35 days.
For temperature-controlled freight, a 2-cent dip is not the time to wait for a bargain. Reliable reefer capacity is still scarce, especially out of the Midwest.
JASKO Enterprises — refrigerated capacity you can plan on.
